Problem to register a free stadia account

Jump to Best Response

Hello!

A friend of mine has got the problem, that he wants to register a free Stadia Account without Stadia Pro. I have an account like that, so there seems to be a way to have an account like that.

When my friend registered his Gmail-Account on stadia.google.com, he was asked to set up an Avatar, a username etc. . The last step was "finish", where he was asked, if he wants to try a free trial of Stadia Pro. There is no way to continue, without accepting the free trial. He can't just book the free trial and then decline it afterwards, because he does not own a credit card.

How can he continue at this moment to use a free Stadia account, where he buys games and doesn't have Stadia Pro?

Thanks for the help!

@janrickmer Unfortunately I don't know of a way to finish the account creation process without accepting the free trial, and that does require a card number to sign up. The easiest way forward may be to get a prepaid card with enough of a balance to cover the one-month subscription - not that it will be used, but I think they use an authorization hold to make sure you're good for it.

Alternatively, I use a free service from privacy.com to generate virtual card numbers which debit directly against my checking account. That's really handy when buying things online too since if a merchant has a breach I don't have to worry about getting a new card.

We have solved the problem:

When you open Stadia on Google Chrome (PC), it wants you to enter your credit card information for the free trial of Stadia Pro. But when you open it in the Stadia App, it also allows PayPal in Google Pay. Using this as a payment method, you can register for the free trial of Stadia Pro. After that you can unsubscribe Stadia Pro in the Play Store. When you do this as soon as possible, you don't pay anything and your Stadia account becomes a Stadia Basic account.

@janrickmer Nice find! I'll try to remember that workaround for the next time this comes up. Thanks!
