How do I add a user account for my wife?

Jump to Best Response

Hi,

I bought the Stadia Premiere Edition that comes with a controller and a chromecast ultra. I got my invite code and used it to setup my Stadia account. I also bought an extra controller for my wife.

After setting everything up, I can't seem to add a new Stadia account for my wife. She can't use my invite code because it's already been used. I can't seem to generate a new invite code for her.

I asked a Google Stadia specialist by chat, but they told me I need to purchase another $130 Stadia Premiere Edition to get a user account for my wife. That doesn't make any sense, I don't need another controller or chromecast ultra. I just want a user account for my wife so she can save her own progress and achievements.

I already signed up for Google Families and Stadia Families. This seems to allow me to share a family payment method, but I couldn't figure out how to invite my wife to Stadia.  The Stadia Family Dashboard has a "pending requests" section, but I can't figure out how to request an invitation from my wife's gmail account.

TL;DR how do I add a user account for my wife that's associated with her gmail account without buying another Stadia Premiere Edition because I don't need another controller or chromecast ultra.

Thank you!

@Noric For now, Stadia still requires an invite code in order to create an account, and the only ways to get an invite code are to purchase another hardware bundle or find a Founder who still has an available Buddy Pass to share - though those are getting to be few and far between since Founders received a limited number of Buddy Passes waaaay back in November.

I'm hopeful that this requirement will be lifted soon but I'm afraid we don't have any information about when that might actually happen. In the meantime you can link both controllers to the same account for local multiplayer gaming, and some games support multiple user profiles in-game so your wife could track her own progress underneath your existing Stadia account.

Sorry to not have better news for you!

 Thanks @codesplice.

I wouldn't have bought a second controller if I understood that my wife couldn't have her own account. I'd have bought her another Premiere edition, especially when it was $30 off for a day. The purchase experience is unclear on that, and so are the docs around Stadia Families.

Loving the service so far. Looking forward to when phone+laptop supports wireless controllers.

@Noric does it now work with the "free for all" promotion which started yesterday?

Thanks for letting me know about this promotion @Tobonaut! My wife has an account now.

Our new biggest problem is that the games I've purchased aren't available in a family library for her to use too :slightly_smiling_face:

We are enjoying Stadia. I suspect that many of the things we want are being actively worked on by Google- multiplayer cross-play, more games, more free games, more couch co-op games, wireless controllers to support laptops/phones, and Stadia to work passably in locations with terrible internet.

By the way @codesplice, I had to type this entire post twice. If you get a forum notification in your email, click on it, click reply, type a post, and then go to post it, it'll ask you to oauth login and then your post is gone after the oauth login succeeds. This forum software is pretty janky in general, for example hitting @ to tag somebody is not smooth.

@Noric Glad to hear you were able to get your wife signed up! I think that some manner of family sharing is being worked on but I'd encourage you to use the in-app Feedback option to let the devs know how eager you are for that to be added.

And I'll pass along your feedback about the forum experience.
