@GraceFromGoogle could you plase make the team aware of what is explained below?

Bitrate is very low in dark scenes and we are getting really bad quality unnecessarily - and loads of bad reviews too!
Data usage options are useless for this and we need more granular options to lock bitrate etc. You are getting a lot of bollocking from internet and this is only a very easy setting to change.
Thank you!
I am definitely on board with more options to favour better quality as I don't have any concerns personally about data use or running out of bandwidth. Even if there was an option to make the stream CBR with 4X the current maximum bitrate I would take it without blinking an eye.
More options never hurts, people that don't want to use the higher bitrates can continue with the current settings and those who can utilize it can switch.
Boosting this long after the fact because it's still sorely needed for players using a web browser connection at 1080p.
If I force 4K or even 1440p and VP9 encoding via an extension, I get an incredibly sharp, crisp 1080p image, but (1) I shouldn't have to do that, and (2) that loses me the 60FPS benefit of playing at 1080 for games that support it, and I shouldn't have to lose that.
On Shadow or GeForce Now I get a picture almost indistinguishable from local play at ultra 1080p settings. Stadia's 1080p picture is comparatively a mess, and it only starts to approach local quality if I force a higher, downsampled resolution. There should be no need for this at all. A higher bitrate is obviously available, since it's used for 4K and the 1080p image quality cleans up fine if you force the stream to downsample 4K to 1080. This is a solved problem. Just let us opt for a higher bitrate with the 1080p stream.
Please, Stadia. This one is a no brainer, especially as you open the service up to more new users with demos they're going to get to through the web. Stadia can look great. Just... let it look great.
Just want to add my 2 cents that its not just limited to the chrome browser. I'm seeing the same issue with Premiere Edition on my Full HD TV. So a Google Chromecast Ultra on a 1080p tv also has lots of artifacts in dark scenes. It makes dark missions in RDR2 almost unplayable at times.
Agree with the above. I sometimes see the dark scenes low bitrate artifacts. Particularity last week. It’s easily seen on Destiny mainly when floating round orbit matchmaking etc.
I resolved a lot of it with upgrading my network hardware and now the CCU is powerlined to my router. Stadia is now very stable as a result. I’m still astounded how little to no lag there is. It’s a great service!
I digress though.
Just a question when you mention forcing 4K 1440p....
I play on a Dell 27” 165Hz 1440p monitor and would love to be able to force this mode. Ultimately I’d love it natively but any work arounds would be welcome if someone can point me in right direction??
@LycraLover79 I always use Stadia+ Extension on Chrome to force 4K resolution on my Dell 25" of 1440p. You will get noticiable better quality from higher bitrate.
Give it a go!
Keep in mind, though, Chrome users, part of the reason this topic was made is that if you force 4K, then you're making Stadia render the full 4K on their end, even though you're going to display a lower resolution on your end. This means you won't be getting 60FPS in as many games, and may introduce some extra lag to your gameplay. There should be no reason for any of this, when Google could just increase the bitrate of the 1080 stream (or at least give us that option) and deliver a much cleaner picture at 1080.
