Escape Key in game to get to menus

Jump to Best Response

Ok.  So, most games use ESC to get to the game menu normally.  For example, in Everspace, to get to the menu to save and exit on PC you would normally hit escape then choose what you want.

In stadia I can't figure out what the equivalent is of ESC since it's used to exit fullscreen.  This isn't only for exiting the game, there may be options to try which I can't get to on PC.

What is the stadia equivalent on keyboard of the esc key to bring up game menus?

Looking this up in 2022 and found a solution that worked for me.
If you are using Brave, acesss the Stadia website and turn off the Brave Shield. (By clicking the orange lion on the right side of the address bar)
Worked for me. Hope it helps someone out.

Hello,

If you want to use the Stadia overlay you have to press: Shift + Tab.

Hold ESC for the Shutdown menu of Stadia.

F12 to make a screenshot. Hold F12 to save to last 30 seconds in a small movie clip.

Hope this helps. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

But what if something in the game requires you to press the escape key.

In cyberpunk 2077, if you want to close the items or character build menu, you need to press Esc but that does not work as this triggers the exit from stadia

@DrTulip

A single press of ESC should not trigger the Stadia menu, that should only happen when holding the ESC key.

If you have problems try a incognito windows of Chrome.

Should that help try clearing the cache and cookies of your browser.

A single press immediately brings up the stadia menu for exciting the game or returning to it.

For now I found out I can also close the screen in cyberpunk with the i key

@DrTulip @Simple

Are you playing with the latest Chrome browser?
And if you did you try opening a Chrome Incognito window to play Stadia?

Same issue.

The issue is not present in Incognito mode!

@RXShorty I am using this version of chrome:

Google Chrome is up-to-date
Versie 87.0.4280.88 (Officiële build) (64-bits)

and indeed in Incognito mode I need to long press the Esc key to get to the Stadia exit menu

@DrTulip

Thanks for reporting back.

Good to hear it works in with incognito, this means it can be resolved with Chrome.
Things your could try are:

In Chrome type: chrome://flags/ --> Now press reset all (this should reset all plugins, so please be aware of this!

If this doesn't do the trick you can clear your cookies and temporary files.

@Rignes sorry for hijacking your question, I did not know this was a different issue

I think we are all missing my point a little.  When I organically posted I was speaking about playing on a Chromecast Ultra.  I was able to bring up the ESC menu on PC just fine, though I don't remember exactly what I pressed to do it since I play on the TV 99.99 percent of the time.

so, what we need is a way to bring up the esc menu with just the Stadia controller on a Chromecast Ultra.  I'm willing to be it's there somewhere, just that I haven't figured it out yet.

EDIT: I think it was just tapping the tab key, but can't test that right now since I'm at work and they frown upon gaming at work.  So silly... :slightly_smiling_face:

This issue is present in Edge. Which guess what? Is based on Chromium.

So this is a code commit issue! Not an issue with Google Chrome itself!!!
