Serious Sam 4, slow framerate and low graphics settings

Serious Sam 4 has a rather poor frame rate, there is no motion blur and it looks like the graphics settings are low. It's border-line unplayable, especially compared with Doom Eternal which as a decent frame rate and nice anti-aliasing.

I'm playing in the browser at 1080p, but it is just as bad at 720p

Will this improve in an update?

They are a small team, so I would put my hopes too high. You could try if you get any improvement in devices that has VP9 hardware decoding enabled as default.

To check if your computer supports VP9 hardware decoding:

In your Google Chrome address bar, type chrome://gpu and press Enter.
Scroll down to 'Video acceleration information'.
If you see 'Decode vp9', your computer supports VP9 hardware decoding

I don't see vp9, just h264. This is on a 2020 Macbook. I see the same poor framerate and graphics on a Chromecast ultra. But other games look good on both, so I doubt its related to the video codec...
